Struggling Mumbai part ways with under-fire coach Kashyap

- HT Correspondent

Mumbai FC, the only I-league club from the city, parted ways with their coach Santosh Kashyap after a dismal run of form left them at the bottom of the league table.

Kashyap had joined the club early last year in an effort to rebuild the team following previous coach Khalid Jamil’s move to Aizawl FC.

Prior to the start of the season, Kashyap said he was targeting a top-three finish but with just four games to go, Mumbai are staring at relegation having picked up just 10 points from 14 matches.

Incidentally, Jamil’s Aizawl FC side are on top of the table.

Kashyap had brought in radical reforms at the club retaining played for Mumbai FC last season, and admittedly spent a great deal of money in the hope to build for the future. He brought in a specialised GPS system to track each player’s training methods.

Mumbai started the season well, winning their first two matches.

However it was all downhill from there as they have gone drawing four and losing eight matches, the most recent of which was the 0-5 drubbing by Maharashtra rivals DSK Shivajians who they had beaten on the first day of the season.

Last month, rumours surfaced of a rift between Kashyap and a few senior players of the side like Steven Dias, Allan Dias and Pratik Chowdhary.

Supposedly, Kashyap had dropped the players from the squad, but the players were reinstated after fans revolted against the decision.

Mumbai FC announced the decision to part ways with Kashyap via an official statement released on Friday.

However, they did not mention a reason for the dismissal. Repeated attempts to contact club vice-president Atul Bagdamia via calls and messages
