After presenting a realistic budget of Rs25,000 crore, civic chief Ajoy Mehta on Saturday instructed all 24 assistant municipal commissioners to provide citizens with better quality services from 2017-2018.

In the monthly review meeting, he directed the commissioners to prepare and implement a time-bound action plan to improve civic amenities.

His order came after the ward officials submitted proposals on the number of gardens, road medians, traffic islands to be beautified, etc.

They were directed to share repair details of toilets, cemeteries, dispensaries and maternity hospitals.

The civic chief also sought suggestions from the officials how the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) can develop better sewer network and tackle the encroachment issue near stormwater drains.

He encouraged the officials to come up with any proposal that can be undertaken by the BMC.

Aware of how the best of plans can draw a blank, Mehta asked the officials to prepare a timebound action plan on proposals.

A senior civic officer said, “We will now have to submit a detailed report on how we plan to implement all projects mentioned in the presentation, for example the report will have details such as time taken to develop and beautify 50 gardens in a year.”

The civic chief further directed the commissioners to monitor storm water drains and desilting works.

The BMC will soon put up posters near major drains to pre vent dumping of waste.

Mehta instructed the commis sioners that all road works be accelerated before the monsoon hit the city.

Taking stock of pre-monsoon road works, the civic chief the ward officers and deputy com missioners can directly approach him if they encounter any problems.

The civic body will carry out repair of entire pothole ridden stretches instead of only repair ing potholes, said civic officials
