Students interested in how the human body functions at a molecular level and the science that can be used to manage human health can apply for a BSC (hons) in pharmaceutical science at Uk-based Staffordshire University.

The university’s department of biological sciences within the School of Life Sciences and Education allows students to explore the biochemical and cellular make-up of the human body, investigate what happens when things go wrong through disease or illness, and how these may be prevented or cured by the action of drugs.

They can also build a clear understanding of drugs and medicines, their structures, discovery and development, their biological delivery and activity, and their testing, regulation, production and quality assurance by analytical methods.

“Each year of the programme begins with getting all students and tutors engaged in investigating core biological, chemical and pharmaceutical ideas, practitioner skills workshops, studentcentred lectures and feedback/ feed forward action planning sessions. Each year ends with a variety of student exposition events such as a student conference,” the university said.

The final year includes sity’s exposition of student work, where they can showcase the outcomes of their final year project to potential employers. After the three-year full-time course, graduates can become scientists in either within the pharmaceutical industry specifically or a wider scientific field. They can also work in drug discovery, isolating and characterising new potential drugs, undertake laboratory or clinical trials, or be involved in full-scale industrial drug production.

There are other avenues in marketing, sales and business management in pharmaceutical and other scientific industries. They can also work in the biopharmaceutical industry, food processing and quality assurance, veterinary and agricultural laboratories.

To apply for the course, candidates should have attained a minimum of 75% overall score in Class 12 and English language requirements include an overall IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in speaking, writing, reading and listening. The course will begin from September and early applications by March 31 are recommended. The course fee is £10,900 (Rs 8,80,433) and Indian students enrolling for the first time in September can apply for New Merit Scholarship of £1,000 (Rs 80,773). New undergraduate Progression Scholarships of up to £2,000 (Rs 1,61,657) will be awarded on an annual
