Shuttler Jayaram exits Malaysia Open

Shuttler Ajay Jayaram lost to South Korean fifth seed Son Wan Ho in the men’s singles quarter-finals to bring an end to India’s campaign at the Malaysia Open Superserie­s here on Friday.

World No 20 Jayaram, the lone Indian to have crossed the firstround barrier of the tournament, was handed a 18-21, 14-21 defeat in 37 minutes by Son.

RANI WANTS PENALTY CORNERS CONVERTED

The Indian women’s team captain Rani on Friday said that her side would need to convert the penalty corners if they want to win their semifinal match against Belarus in the Women’s Hockey World League Round 2.

Even though the Indian eves are managing to win the PCS they are not so successful in con verting them. “It is an area of concern for us. We have to con vert PCS in the semifinal game and we are putting in extra min utes in our practice sessions,” she said.

MAIRAJ, SHEERAZ SHINE IN ITALY TRIALS

Indian shotgun shoot ers Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Sheeraz Shaikh finished a credit able second and third, respec tively, at the Italian skeet shoot ing trials for the upcoming ISSF World Cup.

The Indians were competing in the foreign category, ahead of the tournament at Larcana Cyprus. Denmark’s Rio Olym pics finalist Jesper Hansen won the event that was held at Tiro Avolo Falco, Capua, Italy.
