Graphic designer arrested for creating fake Facebook profile of woman who rejected him

graphic designer from Prabhadevi has been arrested for allegedly creating a fake social media profile of a woman who rejected his advances and sending offensive and lewd messages to all her contacts.

The Tardeo police said the accused, Harish Dhuri, 29, also tried to hack into the woman’s friend’s account.

The complainant, a 19-year-old student, lodged a case of defamation in February after she found out someone was sending messages, photos and videos to all her friends and family, using her name. “He took her personal details from actual Facebook profile, so people believed it was the woman” said an officer from Tardeo police station

When the friend ignored him, he tried hacking into her account, following which she got a notification. The alert showed the hacker’s IP address.

“We used the IP address to find his address. We arrested Dhuri from his Prabhadevi home and he cer said.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.

Services on the Thane Vashi-panvel trans-harbour railway corridor will be sus pended for 90 minutes on Thurs day and Friday afternoon.
