Mbappe brace gives Monaco 3-2 win in reschedule­d match

Teenager Kylian Mbappe scored twice to give AS Monaco a 3-2 win at Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday in a Champions League quarter-final first-leg match that was postponed following an attack on the home team’s bus.

Mbappe gave Monaco a 19thminute lead shortly after Fabinho had missed a penalty for the visitors, and they went further ahead when Dortmund defender Sven Bender headed into his own net after 35 minutes.

Ousmane Dembele pulled one back for Dortmund in the 57th minute but another defensive mistake allowed Mbappe to break away and grab a third goal for the Ligue 1 side. Shinji Kagawa gave the German side hope with a neat finish six minutes from time.

German media had questioned whether the game should have gone ahead so soon after Tuesday’s attack in which three explosions went off as the Dortmund team bus travelled to the stadium, injuring their Spanish defender Marc Bartra.

MONACO FANS ADOPT DORTMUND COLOURS

After Borussia Dortmund’s fans opened their doors to Monaco rivals stranded by a bomb attack that postponed their match, the visitors returned the solidarity gesture Wednesday decked out in the German squad’s black and yellow. At the centre of the western city, Monaco fans were piling into the German club’s boutique, snapping up Dortmund gear before kick-off.

“We’ve sold hundreds of scarves and jerseys since this morning, and it’s almost only the French who’ve been buying,” said Sultan Karakas, who was manning the boutique’s till.

In the shop, groups of supporters were discussing the three blasts that hit Borussia’s team bus, shattering the vehicle’s windows and injuring two people, including defender Marc Bartra.

But talk also turned to how visiting fans were charmed by their hosts.

With the Twitter hashtag #bedforaway­fans, Dortmund supporters offered many of the 3,000 visiting fans a kip for the night. Borussia Dortmund’s official account had promoted the heartwarmi­ng initiative to “Dear
