Five arrested for raping minor in Bhayander

The Navghar police have on Friday arrested five people, including a minor, for allegedly gangraping a 17-year-old girl in Bhayander (East).

The Thane court sent the minor accused to a children’s remand home in Bhiwandi while the rest were remanded in police custody.

The arrested accused have been identified as Amar Munshi Singh (20), Sunil Hariram Yadav (27), Raju Manoj Patel (19), Sunil Vedpal Both (19). According to the police, Amar and the other accused had raped the minor girl

The Supreme Court refused relief to two former crime branch officers who were booked for allegedly demanding money from a builder in the city in 2007.

The court said that it was primarily a civil dispute, which was given a criminal angle after the names of the two officers — Anil Mahabole and Rajendra Nikam — cropped up.

One of the builders, Vinod Avlani, allegedly struck a deal with Krishnamil­an Shukla of Buildtech Engineers Limited over an SRA project . It did not work out and Avlani decided to money that he had invested in it. Avlani later accused Shukla of trying to extort money from him.

Instead of registerin­g a case against Shukla, the two officers purportedl­y demanded Rs10 lakh from Shukla to settle the case. Shukla approached the ACB.

The case was much discussed because of the alleged involvemen­t of gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s late sister Haseena Parkar as an intermedia­ry.

A 40-year-old man who was wanted in a case of fraud in Telangana was arrested at the Chhatrapat­i Shivaji Internatio­nal Airport on Friday.

According to the police, Vidyasagar Kukala was charged with cheating and criminal breach of trust in Telangana, where he had allegedly cheated a firm of Rs10 crore. After a case was registered, the accused fled, prompting the police to issue a look-out circular.
