Andheri woman out of danger: Police

The 50-year-old woman in Andheri who was attacked by a security guard last Thursday is out of danger, police said on Saturday. The woman was stabbed twice in the stomach in her flat at Four Bungalows (see story board above). She was operated upon at Cooper Hospital.

“The doctors have informed us that she is out of danger. She will be kept there till she recovers completely,” said a police officer investigat­ing the case.

After conducting a medical test on the woman, doctors said it seemed that there had been an attempt to rape her but added that the final report was yet to arrive.

Raja Shebu, who is in his 20s , was working as a temporary watchman in absence of the building’s regular guard.

The police said they recovered the blood-stained kitchen knife that was used to stab the woman They seized the women’s clothes and Shebu’s, which were blood soaked. These, and his mobile phone, will be sent to the Kalina forensic laboratory, they added Shebu was also taken for a medi cal test.

The police are scanning foot age from CCTV cameras in the neighbourh­ood for evidence as the building has none. However they said they had ample evi dence from numerous eyewit nesses. The police said will soon record the statements of the rela tives and the men who caugh Shebu. The woman’s mother wil be made an eyewitness, they added.

“The suspect is from Wes Bengal. He was a temporary watchman. The regular watch man had gone to his village. We will find out if has committed crimes against women in the past, which would make our case stronger,” said an officer investi gating the case.
