U-16 football team beats Egyptian club
India’s under-16 football team beat Al-ahly 2-1 in friendly match to win the India-egypt Friendship Cup. Rohit Danu and Aenam Jyrwa scored for India.
Head coach of the Indian team Bibianofernandesexpressedhis happiness for the win and said the match was good as it was beneficial and a learning experience for both teams. “I’m really happy we have learned a lot of things. We are looking forward to build this team to the AFC,” Fernandes told PTI.
VANI KAPOOR FINISHES TIED 53RD IN SPAIN
India’s Vani Kapoor rounded off the week at the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Open with the best round of her career on the Ladies European Tour as she carded four-under 67 to finish tied 53rd.
Vani, playing her first full season on the LET, shot rounds of 73, 69, 77 and 67 for a total of two-over 286. Vani, who started on the 10th, had a great first nine with birdies four-under at the turn. She dropped a shot on first, but a birdie on par-5 fourth made up for that. India’s other challenger Amandeep Drall missed the cut.
HARIKA SUFFERS FIRST LOSS IN REYKJAVIK
India’s Grandmaster Harika Dronavalli’s unbeaten run came to an end when she went down fighting to Dutch grandmaster Jorden van Foreest in the fifth round of the Reykjavik Open here.
Harika, who had looked solid till now, ran into time trouble after a smart opening and ended up giving away a point. The Indian is 40th on the table but just one and a half points behind leader Anish Giri with three wins and one draw.
