Cop dies after train hits him

A 57-year-old government railway police (GRP) head constable who was to retire in a year died after a Virar-bound local train knocked him down late on Monday.

The Andheri GRP said the incident took place around 11.30pm between the Andheri and Vile Parle railway stations. The station master at Andheri station had called for GRP personnel and coolies as another man had been knocked down by a train between the stations, the police said. Suresh V Patil, who was on night duty went with ter to the spot.

There was a gap of 50 to 100 feet between Patil and the others , the police said.

According to the police, Patil saw a train coming towards him and changed tracks.

But, another train moving towards Virar knocked him down, the police said. He sustained grievous injuries and was taken to Cooper hospital where he was declared dead. The injured person they were trying to attend to was found dead, police said. He is survived by a wife and a son.

22-year-old man run over by train at Nerul

Kurla was run over by a train on the harbour line between Nerul and Seawoods railway stations on Monday.

According to the police, Ahmad Allauddin Chaudhary came to Nerul around 5pm. He was crossing the tracks when he was hit by a Cst-bound train.

“He sustained severe injuries on his head. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but the doctors declared him brought dead,” said a police officer from Vashi GRP.

The police identified the body from some documents recovered from his pockets and they then informed his family.
