CONG TO MOVE OUT OF NARIMAN POINT OFFICE FOR METRO3

- Faisal Malik

Two Opposition parties — the Congress and the Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh (BBM) led by Prakash Ambedkar — have agreed to move out of their offices at Nariman Point for the Metro-3 project.

According to a source, the Congress is planning to operate from its old office at Parel until they get an office from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) as per an agreement. However, the NCP is yet to identify an alternative office as they say the renovation work of the temporary place offered by MMRCL is still incomplete.

“We are ready to shift as per the agreement, but MMRCL is supposed to hand over a furnished rented office. The space at Thackersey still has no fans, cabins or facility to store documents. We can’t occupy just two open halls and working,” Sanjay Tatkare NCP spokesperson said.

Earlier, the MMRCL had cut the power supply to the offices and also blocked their entrances, saying they have to start work. The parties had to temporarily vacate for the underground metro corridor that will link Colaba and SEEPZ. Officials from MMRCL said that the parties had been given enough time to shift. However, the parties are saying the renovation work of the temporary offices is still incomplete and that it is the responsibility of the agency to complete them before taking any such action.

Congress party spokesperson Sachin Sawant said they will vacate the space in the next 2-3 days and will be operating from their old office at Parel until MMRCL provides them a rented office.
