Police look for women in Kulkarni photos
Cops found photos of women in cult leader’s Bandra house after arrest on April 20, say he used them to make fake FB profiles
KULKARNI WAS ARRESTED AFTER THREE COUPLES ALLEGED KULKARNI HAD LURED THEIR DAUGHTERS INTO TAKING DRUGS AND MADE THEM LEAVE THEIR HOMES
Police said they were searching for several women whose photographs they found during a search of alleged cult leader Sunil Kulkarni’s Bandra home last week.
Kulkarni was arrested on April 20 on various charges, including human trafficking.
The police arrested him after the three families petitioned the Bombay high court, claiming Kulkarni’s organisation Shifu Sunkriti was a ‘sex and drugs cult’ that had “ensnared” their daughters.
Officials said they found several pictures of women photographed by Kulkarni at his home.
Police suspect that Kulkarni sexually exploited and extorted money from them.
They said that Kulkarni made fake profiles of the women on Facebook. The police are investigating whether he cheated people using fake accounts.
In their petition, the three families told the court their daughters and sons — all in their twenties — ran away from home after Kulkarni introduced them to drugs as part of his ‘cult’ and refused to return.
During their search of Kulkarni’s Bandra residence, police found his mobile phone and a pen drive, both of which contained sexually explicit clips. They also found a book with explicit material.
Before his arrest, Kulkarni had already been charged with was cheating and extorting money from students seeking MBBS seats in Delhi, Nagpur and Pune.
In the current case, he has been charged with — apart from human trafficking — causing hurt by means of poison with intent to commit an offence, sale of obscene books, and cheating under the Indian Penal Code and various sections of the Information Technology Act.
The case, registered by the Malad police, has been transferred to the crime branch.
