Bangladeshi held with fake Indian passport issued in 2013
Bangladeshi national, who tried to fly to Saudi Arabia allegedly on a fake Indian passport issued three years ago in West Bengal, was detained by immigration officials at the international airport in Andheri (East).
He was handed over to the local police, who arrested him. This is the second case in the past fortnight, in which a Bangladeshi national has been arrested with a fake Indian passport.
According to the police, Shah Zamal, 39, had illegally entered India and has been living in Mumbai for the past eight years.
The police said that he had come to India to escape poverty and earn a living.
Zamal met an Indian national in West Bengal, who is said to have forged documents and got Kolkata passport office in 2013 under the name of Rakibul Umajuddin, the police said. On April 30, Zamal went to the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport to take a flight to Saudi Arabia.
However, around 10.30am, during an immigration check, he was detained on suspicion. His details were cross-checked and found to be false Sahar police. A FIR has been reg istered against him under The Passport Act 1967 and the For eigners Act 1946.
He has been remanded in police custody till May 5 for fur ther probe.
