Maoists attack security force’s protected vehicle, 15 jawans injured

Around 15 cops were injured when a mine protected vehicle of C-60 commandos, the Anti-maoist squad, came under a landmine attack near Bhamra garh in Gadchiroli on Wednes day night.

The incident occurred when the C-60 patrolling party was crossing the area. Maheshwar Reddy, the additional superin tendent of police, Gadchiroli said those who received minor injuries were rushed to the near est civil hospital, but three, who were grievously hurt, were air lifted to Nagpur for treatment.

Reddy said additional police forces were sent to the area and a massive combing operation is on to flush out the ultra-left activ ists.

Earlier in the day, a CRPF jawan and two state police per sonnel were injured in a firing with the militants in south Gad chiroli. The police also seized huge arms and ammunition from the site.

The Maoists had targeted a CRPF team near Sukma on Apri 24 in Chhattisga­rh and killed 26 paramilita­ry jawans. Similarly the ultra-left extremists killed 12 CRPF personnel in another attack in Sukma on March 11 this year.

In an attack on May 22, 2009, a least 16 police officials were killed by Maoists in jungles in Gadchiroli district. Similarly on October 8, 2009, Maoists attack Laheri police station in Gadchi roli district and killed 17 police men and left several injured.
