Minor among six held for burgling Nutan’s bungalow

The Mumbra police on Sunday arrested six people, including a minor, for allegedly breaking into yesteryear actress Nutan’s bungalow in Thane and fleeing with valuables worth Rs50,000.

The police identified the accused as Uday Jha,19,suraj Singh,18, Chandan Singh, 20, and Jitu Gautam,19, Chandan Patwa, 21. All are Thane residents and do odd jobs.

They climbed the hills on the intervenin­g night of Saturday and Sunday, said the police. At the time, there were three guards at the front of the bungalow at Parsik Hill near Mumbra Retibunder. “After climbing the hills, the six split into four teams and injured the guards by pelting stones on them. In the melee, they entered the bungalow and fled with silver plates and other valuables worth Rs50,000,” said an officer.

The police also recovered an old sword from the men’s possession.

R Tayade, senior inspector of Mumbra police station, said, “After committing the crime, they kept the valuables in a sack. The next day early in the morning, they were seen near Retibunder and were caught.”

The accused were produced in court and were remanded in police custody.

“We found three swords, red chilly powder and a rope, pipes and other equipment from the accused. All accused are from Kalwa and that they had planned the robbery a few weeks ago. Al are under police custody,” said Tayade.
