‘Would rather take a train back to the city’

-

MUMBAI : Ajay Awtaney is a banker and an editor of a frequent fliers’ website. On May 17, he travelled to Delhi from Mumbai on a 10pm flight and said that he learnt about the upgradation work only when he was stranded in the aircraft. Awtaney, who ultimately reached his destination only around 3am, said, “Had I scheduled anything for the day, I would have ended up missing all my plans. It is a matter of concern that more than half of the flight have been delayed. Authorities should plan such maintenance work in advance.”

“It was only when my aircraft was stuck on the tarmac that I learnt about the maintenance work that is going on. Flight travel seems to be waste of time as the airlines are dependent on all necessary clearances to take off.”

After the experience, Awtaney said he would rather take a train back to Mumbai. MUMBAI : Dr Naveen Parmar is a medical advisor and a frequent flier, as he has to travel to various cities for business.

Such flight delays disrupt meetings that are scheduled weeks, and even months, in advance, he said.

“In the corporate world, everything is scheduled systematically. This is often done to efficiently utilise the time and get the required outcome,” he said.

“Delayed flights not only postpone these meetings, but they also affect the quality of the meetings due to inadequate time, especially in cases when the flier has booked the immediate next flight for return.”
