IPL SPOTFIXING: COPS FIND DIARY WITH NUMBERS OF 100 BOOKIES

THANE:TWO days after Sonu Jalan was arrested for the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing, the Thane anti-extortion cell found a diary with phone numbers of more than 100 cricket bookies.

Sonu Jalan alias Sonu Batla is a known cricket bookie, who operated in the country and abroad. A Bollywood celebrity’s name has also cropped up in the book, police said. The celebrity, is a resident of Mumbai and had lost money during a bet after which Jalan started sending threats. Pradeep Sharma, senior police inspector from the Thane anti-extortion cell, said, “We have got the list of bookies and are verifying it with Jalan. We found the book during a search at his home.”

The people mentioned in the book include contractors, builders and those who work in the share markets, among others.

“Jalan had arranged a matchfixing meeting at Dubai. The celebrity was also present at that time. We are probing to know which match was fixed and who all were involved ,” Sharma said.

On May 17, three cricket bookies were arrested by the Thane anti-extortion cell from Thane and Dombivli.

Later, police arrested three more bookies from Malad. A total of six people have been arrested in the IPL betting racket so far.
