One killed, one hurt in mishap on WEH, tempo driver held

MUMBAI: A businessma­n, who was travelling with a friend, died on Friday after a truck hit their car on the Western Express Highway (WEH) near Borivali (East).

The driver of the tempo has been arrested. According to the police, the victim, Mohan Rajput, and his friend, Suresh Chausali, were travelling back home in a Honda City.

“The accident took place on WEH when a speeding tempo attempted to overtake the car from left side. Chausali, who was driving the car, lost control over the vehicle,” said an officer from Kasturba Marg police station.

“The tempo overtook the car and came right in front of it, after which the car dashed into the tempo,” he said. Chausali suffered injuries on his leg, while Rajput suffered grievous injuries. Rajput was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

“The car was north-bound when the accident took place. We have arrested the driver of the tempo,” said the officer.

The police are now awaiting the medical reports of the tempo driver to ascertain whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
