Man murdered by hitmen hired by wife for ₹30 lakh

KALYAN: A 44-year-old man from Kalyan was killed by hitmen hired by his wife for ₹30 lakh. The Kolsewadi police on Friday arrested Asha Gaikwad,32, and one of the contract killers Himanshu Dubey,22, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The police said the accused killed her husband, Shankar Gaikwad, because he constantly picked a fight with her for her incessant chatting over her phone.

The victim Shankar Gaikwad, a resident of Sadguru Kurpa building in Tisgaon, Kalyan (East) was missing since May 18. Asha herself had lodged a complaint at the Kolsewadi police station on May 21. A police search resulted in Shankar’s body being found at Badlapur.

During interrogation Asha confessed she had hired contract killers to kill her husband. Himanshu Dubey, one of the contract killers, was paid ₹4 lakh from the total fee.

On May 18, Shankar had left home to visit a temple in Satara. Dubey and his associates managed to kidnap him in an autorickhsaw to Badlapur, killed him and hid his body in an isolated place.

“The motive in this murder is not clear. The wife says she did this because her husband fought with her often because he did not like her chatting on the phone. However, Shankar’s brother claims he was killed for property. We are investigating both the angles,” the police officer said.
