AIR ASIA CEO FAILS TO APPEAR BEFORE CBI

NEW DELHI: The CBI on Wednesday said it will issue fresh summons to Malaysia-based Airasia Group chief executive officer Tony Fernandes after he failed to appear before it in connection with its probe into alleged lobbying by the low-cost domestic airline to get internatio­nal flying licence and violation of foreign investment norms. “Fernandes didn’t appear on Wednesday. He will be issued summons again in due course,” said a CBI official requesting anonymity.

Southwest monsoon to hit Goa on June 7

PANAJI: The southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Goa with heavy rains being predicted at isolated places in the coastal state, Met department said on Wednesday. “The monsoon has already reached northern Karnataka and is proceeding towards Goa. It is expected to arrive in the coastal state in the next 24 hours,” India Meteorolog­y Department’s (IMD’S) Goa Observator­y Director ML Sahu said on Tuesday. The monsoon hit Kerala on May 29.

Odisha for ‘No Flying Zone’ in Puri during Rath Yatra

BHUBANESWA­R: Odisha police will seek permission from the Centre to declare Puri and its periphery a ‘No Flying Zone’ during the Rath Jatra of Lord Jagannath in July 14, an official said. This was decided on Tuesday at a meeting presided over by Odisha DGP RP Sharma. “It was decided to seek permission from Centre to declare Puri and its periphery as No Flying Zone. The Director of Biju Patnaik Internatio­nal Airport and the Director of Civil Aviation have said that they will pursue the matter,” he said.
