Anand leapfrogs to joint lead in Norway

NSTAVANGER: World Rapid champion Viswanatha­n Anand came up with an inspired performanc­e to outplay Maxime Vachier-lagrave of France and jump to joint lead on 3.5 points after the end of the seventh round of Altibox Norway Chess tournament here.

The win came after five draws and one battle against Chinese Ding Liren that was declared as a non-played game after the latter withdrew. Although more than 20 years older than the Frenchman, Anand showed why he is still a force to reckon with as he out-calculated his opponent when it mattered.

SAI SACKS COACH OVER HARASSMENT CHARGE

NEW DELHI: A senior Sports Authority of India (SAI) coach based in Tamil Nadu has been terminated for alleged sexual harassment of schoolgirl­s training at the centre.

Following a complaint last month, SAI headquarte­rs in Delhi initiated an inquiry and sacked the coach. SAI’S Tamil Nadu regional director, G Kishore, said: “One of the coaches has been sacked following an inquiry into a sexual harassment complaint.”

Young female trainees in Bangalore and in Gujarat too have reportedly complained of sexual harassment .
