MUMBAI: According to the chemical analysis (CA) report of 20-year-old Atharva Shinde, who was found dead on May 9, he tested positive for drugs.

The CA report was submitted by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to the Mumbai crime branch on Wednesday. It was based on the tests run on the samples taken from Shinde’s blood, liver, kidney and intestines. “Traces of cannabis have been found in the samples sent by police,” said a FSL official, on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

Earlier, eight youngsters who partied at the bungalow in Royal Palms in Aarey, goregaon (East) with Shinde on May 7, had also tested positive for cannabis.

According to the Aarey police, Shinde had left his home in Kandivli for the party at Royal Palms on May 7. His father, Narendra, an inspector with the Mumbai police’s economic offences wing (EOW), found his body near the party venue on May 9. He had written to the commissioner Datta Padsalgikar, who had transferred the case to unit 11. The police said Shinde partied all night and left the bungalow on May 8. While his girlfriend returned to the bungalow, Shinde, who was drunk, lost his way. As he had injury marks, the Aarey police registered a murder case. However, CCTV footage showed him in a disturbed state. He was seen vomiting a lot and jumping from a wall. Shinde was then seen collapsing at a spot from where his body was found.

His girlfriend who tested positive for drugs and 80 others were questioned. Some youngsters confessed to taking drugs.
