NEW DELHI: The CBI has filed a charge sheet against Paramount Airways promoter M Thiagaraja­n and three others for alleged cheating in getting scheduled operator licence and diverting loan funds worth ₹19 crore from nationalis­ed banks to a Swiss bank, officials said today. The agency had registered the case on April 30, 2016, against Thiagaraja­n for alleged cheating in showing minimum capital of ₹10 crore required to get scheduled operator’s licence and diversion of bank loans to his other companies, the officials said.

Dera case: Honeypreet’s bail plea dismissed

CHANDIGARH: A Panchkula court on Thursday dismissed a plea for regular bail filed by Honeypreet in connection with violence that broke out after the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda sect’s head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in two rape cases. Honeypreet had sought bail from the court in adjoining Panchkula in Haryana, claiming that no evidence was found against her by Haryana Police even as she was behind bars for 245 days.

COBRA commando, cop killed in Naxal encounter

RANCHI: A COBRA commando of the CRPF and a policeman were killed during an encounter with Naxals in Jharkhand’s Saraikela area on Thursday, officials said. The gunfight began at 7 am in Dalbhagaar­ki area of Saraikela-kharsawan district when a joint team of the 209th Battalion of the COBRA and Jharkhand Police was out for a joint operation, they said. Commando Utpal Rabha, 27, hailing from Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills district, was killed during the encounter while a state police personnel succumbed to injuries, they said.

10yearold raped by her uncle in Uttar Pradesh

MUZAFFARNA­GAR: A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her uncle in Budhana area here, police said on Thursday. According to a complaint lodged by the girl’s father, she was raped by her 21-year-old uncle on Wednesday, circle officer Hariram said. The accused lured her from her house and took her to a nearby place, the CO said. The victim was sent for medical examinatio­n, he said.
