Arjun, a left-arm paceman and left-handed batsman was picked after participat­ing in the national under-19 camp in Dharamsala last week.

Unlike his famous father, he falls more in the bracket of a bowling all-rounder and had hit the headlines for a four-wicket haul and a 27-ball 48 earlier this year in the Spirit of Cricket Global Challenge in Australia.

Arjun has represente­d Mumbai in the under-14 and under-16 formats. In the Cooch Behar Trophy last season, he had played in five of the six games, taking 18 wickets. As a batsman, he had scored just 94 runs in five innings at an average of 18.80.

Being Tendulkar’s son has made Arjun one of the most followed junior cricketers in Mumbai — a following the comes with the extra scrutiny and pressure, prompting Tendulkar to urge fans and experts to keep the spotlight away from Arjun.
