PUNE : A brutal attack aboard a moving state transport bus killed a teenager from Dhawadi village in Khed, on Monday.

Ajith Bhagwan Kanhurkar, 25, also a resident of Dhawadi village, attacked the teenager, his cousin, with a sickle-like weapon on the bus, police have said.

The back story involves a love affair between the alleged murderer Kanhurkar and the victim’s sister. Police said the girl refused to marry Kanhurkar which may have led to the fatal attack on her brother.

Kanhurkar is computer engineering graduate from a college in Balewadi, Pune, according to police. He has posted personal information and pictures of the deceased boy’s sister on various social media including Facebook and Whatsapp. “He fled the scene. We are looking for him,” said Dayanand Gawade, police inspector, local crime branch, Pune rural police. The deceased boy began his last bus ride on the fourth seat, on the left aisle of the Gholenagar-rajgurunagar Maharashtra state road transport corporation (MSRTC) bus, early on Monday morning. He was headed to attend extra classes in preparation for his Class 12, which was coming up.

Kanhurkar hit his cousin with the sickle-like weapon at least thrice; one blow caused his head to split open and spill on the seat of the bus.

The bus, with the deceased teen’s body still inside, was then taken to Khed police station. A case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Khed police station
