MUMBAI: A 19-year-old son of a constable succumbed to his injuries after he came under a rear tyre of a BEST bus on Monday night.

The incident took place near Hindmata bus stop at around 10:15pm on June 11.

The deceased, Sahil Kadam, was riding pillion with his cousin Sandeep Jawle, 28, and heading towards Chitra theatre, Dadar, when Jawle lost balance and the bike skidded on the road.

Kadam was crushed under the rear wheel of a BEST bus, after which the driver fled the spot. Jawle suffered minor injuries.

Kadam’s father is a constable, who is posted with the local arms branch of the Mumbai police.

“The duo was driving on the left, when the BEST bus driver swerved to the left as he had to halt at a bus stop. As it was raining, the road was completely wet, which caused the rider to lose his balance. The bike skidded on the road. Kadam fell and came under the rear wheel of the BEST bus and sustained serious injuries to his head,” a police official from Bhoiwada police station said.

D Patil, senior police inspector, Bhoiwada police station, said that a case has been registered under section 279 and 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and different sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The police are further trying to trace the bus with the help of CCTV footage from nearby areas.
