One detained in Rahul Phatangale murder case

PUNE:DAYS after the crime investigation department (CID) released pictures of four suspects allegedly involved in the killing of Rahul Phatangale, sole victim in the Bhima Koregaon violence, the local police have detained one of them. According to police officials, 21-year-old Suraj Shinde, a native of Daund in Pune district, was detained from Solapur.

“We have detained one of the suspects seen in the video and we will be handing him over to the CID as they are investigating the case,” said Dayanand Dhome, senior police inspector, Chaturshringi police station.

Phatangale, 30, died during the violence at Bhima Koregaon, on January 1, when large number of Dalits gathered to commemorate the 200th anniversary of a war between the British and the Peshwas. YOGESH JOSHI
