HOW THE FIRE STARTED

The fire broke out on the

32nd floor of the 33-storey Beau­monde tow­ers in Prab­hadevi at 2.30pm on Wednesday

It spread to the 33rd floor within min­utes and to the 31st floor af­ter two hours

It was doused af­ter eight hours of fire­fight­ing

Two fire­men — Har­ishchan­dra Rao­rane, 54, and Shivaji Achrekar, 53 — com­plained of suf­fo­ca­tion

WHAT OB­STRUCTED OPS?

The hy­draulic lad­der with a max­i­mum reach of 91 me­tres (30 floors) could ac­cess the top floors

The base of the build­ing im­peded the ef­forts This led fire­fight­ers to take the stairs to reach the burn­ing floor and douse the flame. They also used in­ter­nal fire­fight­ing sys­tem.

PLAN TO BOOST FIRE­FIGHT­ING

The fire bri­gade has 18 turntable lad­ders

The tallest lad­der can reach up to 91 me­ters (30 floors) The fire bri­gade plans to buy three turntable lad­ders (64 me­ters) in this year

It also plans to equip it­self with wa­ter trans­porta­tion sys­tem — pumps that can be used dur­ing fire emer­gen­cies to ex­tract wa­ter from a dis­tance of up to 2.5km of the spot

It wants to buy three such pumps
