WOAKES OUT OF T20 SERIES AGAINST INDIA

LONDON: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that all-rounders Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes will take no part in the limitedove­rs series against Australia but indicated that the latter could return in next month’s T20 series with India. Woakes sustained a tear in his right quad during the Leeds Test against Pakistan, but an ECB statement suggested it was caused in part by “a flare-up of a chronic right knee problem”

Uttarakhan­d set to make Ranji Trophy debut

NEW DELHI: A team from Uttarakhan­d will finally feature in the Ranji Trophy, ending an 18-year wait, as the BCCI decided to form a nine-member ‘consensus committee’ to oversee the state’s domestic debut in the upcoming season. After a meeting here on Monday, COA chairman Vinod Rai said that Uttarakhan­d will be making its Ranji debut.

MS Dhoni trains alone at the NCA

BANGALORE: Former India skipper MS Dhoni, who took the Yoyo test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on June 15 along with other India players, had stayed back to practice ahead of the tour of Ireland and England later this month. Dhoni batted for two hours on Monday.

South Africa rest Tahir for Sri Lanka ODIS

JOHANNESBU­RG: South Africa have decided to rest their topranked bowler Imran Tahir, for the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in July-august. Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj and left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi have been included in the 15-man squad.
