PG students protest, say waiting for mark sheets
MUMBAI: Students who completed post-graduate courses at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) have protested against the institute’s decision to delay the distribution of their certificates and to do away with a convocation ceremony.
Students who had graduated in August 2017 have been waiting to hear about a convocation ceremony for the past one year, only to find that the institute has been giving out certificates to students individually, for the past few weeks.
“The University of Mumbai mandates a convocation ceremony, which should be conducted between January and March every year; and we were waiting to hear from the institute. There are gold medallists, who deserve the honour, but the institute seems to neglect basic responsibility,” said a student awaiting his mark sheet.
The student also said that the previous batch of post-graduate students too had faced similar trouble and had received their certificates more than a year after passing the exam.
The institute said that students had been informed about the rules to collect their certificates a month ago and that almost 50% have already collected the document.
“Those who are still waiting for the convocation have also been informed about the same and can collect their certificates anytime from the institute,” said C Chavan, director of the institute.
