JAMES INJURY NOT AS SERIOUS AS FEARED
ST PETERSBURG: Colombia playmaker James Rodriguez is not as badly injured as feared, raising the possibility he could feature in Tuesday’s World Cup round of 16 clash against England. “James Rodríguez underwent a scan today which showed that he is suffering from minor edema (swelling caused by an accumulation of fluid) in his right leg, but that there has been no muscle tear,” said a Colombia federation statement that came out early Sunday morning. Rodriguez, who was substituted in the final group game against Senegal, did not take part in training on Saturday after he felt discomfort in his knee during Friday’s training.
Fifa fines Russia for neonazi fan banner
MOSCOW: Russia’s soccer federation has been fined by FIFA because a fan displayed a neonazi banner at a World Cup game. Fifa’s disciplinary panel ordered the Russian soccer body to pay 10,000 Swiss francs ($10,100) for a “discriminatory banner” at the team’s 3-0 loss to Uruguay in Samara.
Fifa and monitoring experts working at World Cup matches said the banner included the number 88, which is recognized as far-right code for “Heil Hitler” because H is the eighth letter of the alphabet.
Kane says he can score in every World Cup game
REPINO: England captain Harry Kane believes he can score every time he plays in Russia after netting five goals in his first two appearances. Kane leads the race for the Golden Boot but was kept in reserve in the 1-0 defeat to Belgium. “At the moment I think I can score every time we play. Especially when balls are just dropping in for you and things are going for you. You can’t wait to get out there,” Kane told Britain’s Sunday newspapers.
