ZAMAN POWERS PAKISTAN TO BIG WIN VS ZIMBABWE
HARARE: Pakistan cruised to a 74-run win on Sunday over their hosts in the opening match of the Zimbabwe Twenty20 Tri-series. A career best 61 from opening batsman Fakhar Zaman, and a late flurry of boundaries from Asif Ali and veteran batsman Shoaib Malik set up Pakistan’s imposing 182 for 4. In reply, Zimbabwe mustered just 108 all out, with the wickets shared around by Pakistan’s bowling attack. Mohammad Nawaz, Usman Khan, Mohammad Hafeez and Hasan Ali picked up two apiece.
Warner, Bancroft deny rift with Smith
TORONTO: Australia batsmen David Warner and Cameron Bancroft have denied reports that their relationship with former captain Steve Smith has been strained in the aftermath of the trio’s bans for ball-tampering. Smith and Warner were handed 12-month suspensions by Cricket Australia (CA) for planning to alter the condition of the ball in a test against South Africa in March. The duo returned to action this week at the inaugural Global T20 Canada league, where they play for the Toronto Nationals and Winnipeg Hawks respectively, and former Australia test vicecaptain Warner said there were no hard feelings.
Krunal, Chahar to replace injured Sundar, Bumrah
NEW DELHI: All-rounder Krunal Pandya and medium pacer Deepak Chahar earned their maiden call up in the Indian squad to replace injured Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah for the three-match Twenty20 series against England, starting Tuesday at Manchester. While Krunal and Deepak were included just for the T20 series, left-arm spinner Axar Patel has been named as Washington’s replacement for the three-match ODI series that starts at Nottingham on June 12. Incidentally, Krunal and his brother Hardik Pandya will be the the third brother duo to represent India after Mohinder and Surinder Amarnath and Pathan brothers — Irfan and Yusuf.
