‘Mandsaur rape was spur of moment crime’

- Rohit Soni

MANDSAUR\BHOPAL:THE rape of the eight year-old from Mandsaur was not pre-planned, but a spur of the moment decision, the two accused told the police during interrogation.

The eight-year old girl was picked up from her school by accused and taken to Laxman Darwaza where the duo Irfan and Asif raped her, slit her throat and left her for dead. Both have been arrested and their remand has been extended for three more days till July 5. CSP Rakesh Mohan Shukla said that Ifran told police that he was loitering outside the school when he saw the girl standing outside the school premises. Initially he left the area and when he returned around 10 minutes later, the girl was still standing there and there was no one else near the school gates. He approached the girl and promised her sweets and took her with him. He said that he had thought that if someone asked him where he was taking the girl, he would say that he was taking her home as no one had come to pick her up. He called Asif over phone and took her to Laxman Darwaza which is situated behind the bus stand. Laxman Darwaza is entrance to a old now ruined fort and the entire area is overgrown with bushes and swampy. Then they raped her left her for dead. Meanwhile, there were reports that there was a third accused in the case. Apparently when the girl had been found the next day, she had said that there were three men.

The police have not recorded her statement so far. CSP Shukla said that as of now they have only two suspects and both have been arrested.
