BMC COLLECTS ₹30.30L FINE FOR PLASTIC BAN

MUMBAI: Since the plastic ban has been imposed in the state, the Brihanmumb­ai Municipal Corporatio­n (BMC) has collected ₹30.30 lakh as fine imposed on Plastic ban offenders. This fine was collected from 606 shops which were found with plastic bags. The civic body’s blue squad has inspected 70 thousand shops since 23 June. Deputy municipal commission­er (DMC) Nidhi Choudhari said, “This money will be deposited in the state treasury.”

Suspected flamingo hunters seen in Malad

MUMBAI: The wildlife warden of Mumbai filed a complaint with the state mangrove cell on Tuesday alleging that unidentifi­ed people carrying a gun were spotted moving towards the flamingo habitat in Malad (West) mangroves in an alleged attempt to hunt the migratory birds. Sunish Subramania­m, who is also the secretary of Plants and Animals Welfare Society (Pawsmumbai), a city-based NGO, said that he received a distress call about the informatio­n from locals from Malwani village in Malad. “We will get a report by Wednesday as to who these people were with a gun,” said Makarand Ghodke, assistant conservato­r of forest, state mangrove cell.

2 held for attacking man with chopper at Uran bar

NAVI MUMBAI: The Uran police have arrested two people for allegedly attacking a 30-year-old man with chopper at a bar in Uran on Monday. According to the police, the victim, Dinesh Pednekar and Suchit Kohli, 31, had been to the bar late in the evening. Later, accused Roshan Shirodkar, 30, and Abhishek Talke, 27, also came to the same bar.

“Due to some past enmity, in a fit of rage, the accused attacked Pednekar and Kohli with a chopper knife. Pednekar is critical now,” said a police officer from Uran police station. Following an First Informatio­n Report (FIR) , the police arrested Shirodkar and

Talke on Monday.

Class 9 boy commits suicide, family clueless

THANE: A 14-year-old boy committed suicide at his home in Thane on Monday. A police officer said that Abhijeet Pillai came home after class and did not talk much to anyone. When his parents went to call him, he was found hanging with the ceiling fan. No suicide note has been recovered from his house as per the police. S Nadaf, police officer, Vartak nagar police station said, “Soon after the incident, the boy was taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead. We have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case.”
