Two months after MU exams, 1.94L students await results

MUMBAI: University of Mumbai (MU) is yet to declare results of 1.94 lakh students — out of 4.18 lakh — who appeared for semester examinations between April and May.

Data released by the varsity reveals that so far it has declared results for 151 courses across fours faculties — humanities, commerce and management, science and technology and interdisciplinary studies.

These include the results of sixth semester examination for BA, Bcom and BSC — courses with the highest number of candidates.

However, results for 339 out of 490 courses are awaited. The highest number of pending results belong to science and technology faculties, with more than 82,000 students awaiting results.

The university has so far assessed 14.76 lakh out of 16.63 lakh answer sheets. Out of 1.55 lakh answer sheets, that were enabled for moderation 1.53 lakh have been checked.

Last year, the varsity had switched from traditional penand-paper assessment to an on-screen marking (OSM) system.

The decision resulted in a five- month delay in declaring results for last year’s summer examinations owing technical glitches and other problems with OSM.

Moreover, several results were riddled with errors. A year on, the varsity is still struggling to declare error-free results on time.

According to vice-chancellor Suhas Pednekar, results have been declared much quicker as compared to last few examinations. “To ensure past errors aren’t repeated, college principals and teachers need to be motivated. We held four meetings with them. All the principals cooperated,” he said, adding the principals were able to keep a track of the assessment work using a software.

The university has announced that it will soon launch a mobile application for students to access and download exam timetable, results, hall tickets and answer sheets.
