‘NO PLANS TO GIVE MILITARY TRAINING TO YOUNGSTERS’
NEW DELHI: The NDA government, reacting to a media report published on July 17, has denied any plans to offer military training to 1 million youngsters annually. “This is an unfortunate and deliberate attempt to create a wrong impression… The government strongly denies the sensational misrepresentation made in the report,” an official statement said. The statement said a meeting in the Prime Minister’s Office was held to revamp National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS).
Property dispute: Man in UP kills mother, pierces her eyes
GORAKHPUR: A 30-year-old man assaulted his mother and strangulated her to death when he came to know that she had sold a piece of land to fund the treatment of his ailing father in Sonbarsa village under Sahjanwa police station late on Monday, police said. In-charge of Sahjanwa police station Sanjay Kumar, the man pierced her eyes with a pointed object after killing her. “A case was registered against Lolai, his wife Sumitra Devi and brother-in-law Basant Yadav. All of them have been arrested,” he said.
Wary police in Assam ban Togadia from holding meet
GUWAHATI: Wary of his inflammatory speeches, the Assam Police has banned Pravin Togadia, president of newly formed Aantarashtriya Hindu Parishad (AHP) from holding meetings in Guwahati. The former international working president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad is slated to address AHP meetings and the media over the course of next two days in Guwahati. On Tuesday, police commissioner Hiren Nath issued a prohibitory order asking him to abstain from attending any event organised by AHP or delivering any speech anywhere in the city.
19 fishermen missing after boats capsize in Bengal
DIAMOND HARBOUR: At least 19 fishermen have gone missing after three boats capsized in the sea, off Frazerganj harbour, in south Bengal, officials said Tuesday. Sunderban Superintendent of Police Tathagata Basu said a hovercraft and an airplane have been pressed into service to look for those missing.
