RLY RECRUITMEN­T RACKET BUSTED

NEW DELHI: The CBI has arrested eight persons on the charges of running a railway recruitmen­t racket by using a fake website in the name of Railway Recruitmen­t Control Board, a statement said on Monday. Amounts ranging from ~3 to 5 lakh were allegedly collected from candidates for the “employment offer”. The arrests were made in Agra and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Chomu (Rajasthan), Sonepat (Haryana) and Delhi, where the agency conducted searches also leading to recovery of incriminat­ing material, a CBI the statement said.

Meghalaya bans fish from outside state for 15 days

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government on Monday imposed a 15-day ban on fish from outside the state after lab reports on such fish indicated traces of formalin. Recently Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Goa had banned fish from other states for the same reason. A notificati­on signed by PW Ingty, state additional chief secretary, also the commission­er of food safety, read, “…the storage, distributi­on or sale of fresh fish or crustacean­s brought from outside the state is hereby prohibited for a period of 15 days in the interest of public health or till corrective measures are taken .... ”

Five of family killed in Himachal house fire

MANDI: Five persons of a family died in a house fire in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh on Monday morning. Three persons were charred to death on the spot while two others died during treatment for burns at zonal hospital in Mandi town. The fire broke out at 4 am. Although the exact cause is yet to be ascertaine­d, a shot circuit in the air conditione­r is said to be the cause of fire, which spread rapidly while the family was asleep. Prima facie, it appeared that the fire triggered a blast in the LPG cylinder and the family did not get a chance to escape. All five members of the family were stuck in the upper storey of the house.
