- Steffy Thevar

MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) G-north ward has installed 10 speakers, an amplifier and a dedicated staff at Dadar beach in order to alert couples and youngsters about high tides.

The speakers have been placed at 10 locations along the beach by the ward officials.

The speakers have been installed at beach entrances near Kirti College, Suryavanshi Hall, Chaityabhoomi, Hinduja Hospital, Road number 5, Makarand Society, Mahim Durgah and Reti Bunder.

The Dadar Shivajinagar beach is approximately 3 kms from Hinduja Hospital and Kirti College.

The decision to install speakers along with a staff came after the Juhu beach incident when two young boys lost their lives trying to swim in high tides at Juhu Chowpatty on July 6.

A staff from the BMC will make announcements every 15 minutes before the high tides. A high tide usually takes place twice a day.

A higher official from the G North ward, said, “After the Juhu beach incident, the ward decided to install speakers, amplifiers and a dedicated staff who would alert citizens to step away from the seawater 15 minutes before the high tide. In addition to speakers, there would also be hooters to alert citizens.”
