‘Survived by God’s grace, Indrani planned to kill me’
MUMBAI: There were dramatic scenes in court on Wednesday as the prosecution concluded its examination of Mekhail Bora as a key witness in the case of Sheena Bora’s murder. Bora deposed before the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court and said he had no contact with his sister Sheena after April 2012. He also alleged Indrani Mukerjea, who is his mother and accused of murdering Sheena, had tried to “eliminate” him.
Dressed in a grey shirt and black trousers, an emotional Bora told the court about previous meetings with Mukerjea and accused her of wanting to abandon her parents. He alleged that when he met Mukerjea in August 2013, she served him a spiked drink. “I felt uneasiness, sweating and discomfort after having the alcohol. I decided to leave the place and went home. Next day I had to get myself admitted to the hospital,” Bora told the court.
He said that Mukerjea visited him in hospital. She told him that she had found him a job and would admit her parents in an old age home. “I did not trust her . ... I again asked her to let me speak to Sheena, but she got angry and left saying she would now stop sending me money,” recounted Bora.
Bora said that he too believed that Sheena had gone to the USA for further studies in 2012 and that Mukerjea wouldn’t share Sheena’s contact details with him. According to the police investigation, this is when Sheena, who was known to be Mukerjea’s sister even though she was actually Mukerjea’s daughter, was killed. “We had no contact with Sheena. Only in 2015 did we come to know that Indrani had killed her. When I go back and think and join all the incidents, I feel she [Indrani] had attempted to eliminate me as well. I survived by God’s grace,” Bora told the court.
While Bora narrated his side of the story, Mukerjea was in the accused box and could be heard laughing repeatedly during his deposition.
Mukerjea has been charged with kidnapping and murdering Sheena, destroying evidence and criminal conspiracy. She has been in judicial custody since September 2015.
