MUMBAI: Bhandup police arrested three men in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old student who was stabbed to death in broad daylight and in front of many bystanders outside his college on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Sushil Kumar Verma, a resident of Bhandup and a science student at Smt Ramkali Sanmansingh Vidyamandir Junior College of Commerce and Science.

The accused have been identified as Rahul Brijlal Jaiswar, 19, Sanjay Mahendra Yadav, 24, and Virendra Rajbhar, 21.

At approximately 9.20am on Thursday, Jaiswar, Yadav and Rajbhar were waiting outside the gates of the college on Sanman Singh Road in Bhandup and were asking other students about Verma, who was studying in Class 12.

A police officer from Bhandup station said Jaiswar had heard Verma was trying to woo a girl — who happened to a friend of Jaiswar’s — and was furious about it.

“Rahul [Jaiswar] did not even know what Sushil [Verma] looked like but nurtured a grudge against him,” the officer said.

Jaiswar asked some students to call Verma to the gate, and once he did, was taken 100m away from his college and stabbed in his chest and stomach, on a busy road and in front of other college students and bystanders.

When Verma was rushed to a government hospital in Mulund, he was declared dead on arrival.
