INDIAN ARCHERY TEAM RISES TO NO 1 POSITION

KOLKATA: The Indian women’s compound archery team created history by scaling to the top of the world rankings in the recently published chart, a developmen­t which is bound to give a big boost ahead of next month’s Asian Games.

With their twin silver medal winning effort in the Antalya and Berlin World Cups, the Indian women’s compound team lead the chart with 342.6 points, six points ahead of second-placed Chinese Taipei. Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Muskan Kirar are two regulars in the team in both the World Cup stages, while Divya Dhayal (Antalya) and Trisha Deb (Berlin) were the third members. This is a first for women’s compound team while recurve archer Deepika Kumari has been a former world No 1.

DRALL WINS SECOND TITLE OF THE SEASON

HOSUR: Amandeep Drall on Friday held her nerves to finish with birdies in the last two holes and become only the second player this season to win more than once on the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour. In the process, Amandeep completed her double at Clover Greens as she added the title this week to the one she won earlier in the eighth leg at the same venue.

Even as she shot the third consecutiv­e sub-par round, it was also the best card of the week at 5-under 67 to jump to win the 10th leg. Amandeep holed seven birdies, the maximum by any player in a single round this week. She also had two bogeys.

SPA,BELGIUM: Indian driver Jehan Daruvala completed an exhilarati­ng pole to flag victory in the FIA Formula 3 European Championsh­ip here on Friday.

Formula 1 hopeful Jehan also had the fastest lap to his name in race one of the weekend at the legendary Spa Francorcha­mps circuit. The teenage racing sensation from Mumbai, had a tense qualifying earlier yesterday, and began setting lap times with only five minutes left for the session to end.

NEERAJ IN DIAMOND LEAGUE FINALS

Zurich:reigning Commonweal­th Games champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is among the five to have qualified for the IAAF Diamond League finals here on August 30.

Besides Chopra, Johannes Vetter, Thomas Rohler, Jakub Vadlejch, Andreas Hofmann and Estonian record holder Magnus Kirt have also qualified.
