Sourabh, Mithun enter Russian Open semis

VLADIVOSTO­K,RUSSIA: Indian shuttlers Sourabh Verma and Mithun Manjunath progressed to the semi-finals of the men’s singles competitio­n at the USD 75,000 Russian Open BWF Tour Super 100 tournament on Friday.

Second seeded Indian mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and Kuhoo Garg also entered the semi-finals after brushing aside local hopes Andrej Loginov and Liliia Abibulaeva 21-13, 21-9.

It was also end of the road for former national champion Rituparna Das, who lost 17-21, 13-21 to USA’S Iris Wang. Cup here. Kapur started the day two shots behind the leader, but now finds himself six behind as South Africa’s Justin Harding continued his blistering form by carding a second consecutiv­e six-under-par 64.

Kapur was the best Indian in fifth while Gaganjeet Bhullar bounced back from an indifferen­t first round with a super 65 in the second and was now T-13 at 4-under.
