BMC’S gift to seniors: Civic body reserves plot for old age home
THE HOME FOR THE AGED WILL HOUSE 100 SENIORS AND WOULD BE WELL EQUIPPED WITH MEDICAL FACILITIES
MUMBAI: As a part of the city’s social development, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had proposed the construction of an old age home and a working women’s hostel. The civic body has now reserved a plot near Jay Coach in Goregaon East for the old age home.
On Saturday, in a meeting headed by state guardian minister Subhash Desai, civic body officials decided to study some of the old age homes across the city, before constructing the one proposed in Goregaon.
The hostel will come up in Goregaon West and construction is likely to begin by the end of the year. The old age home, however, may take longer than that, said an official who attended the meeting.
Chanda Jadhav, the assistant municipal commissioner of the P South ward (Goregaon), said, “The planning for the hostel is almost complete and the construction will start soon. For the old age home, we have reserved a land in Goregaon East and will study a few other old age homes in the city before we start the planning.”
The hostel will come up near the railway station on a BMC plot. It will consist of 17 floors and will provide accommodation to about 350 women in 170 rooms. The hostel will have a community hall, kitchen and a crèche.
In the meeting, the officials were asked about the updates on the projects and the difficulties they have been facing in its completion.
