When concern takes root naturally

NAVI MUMBAI: Around 150 students, their parents and the faculty of Dr Pillai Global Academy, Panvel gathered at the school on Saturday to plant saplings as part of the plantation drive Green Mumbai, a joint initiative undertaken by HT and Heartfulne­ss Institute.

The day’s events were commenced with a meditation session. Tejaswini Galande, deputy commission­er of Panvel Municipal Corporatio­n (PMC) and chief guest of the day, then kickstarte­d the plantation drive.

Addressing the gathering at the Navi Mumbai school, Galande said that the PMC had exceeded their target of planting 20,000 trees this year.

She also noted the instrument­al role played by the Mahanagar Palika in favour of the cause.

Other speakers who addressed the gathering on Saturday included Prashant Iyer, Mumbai head, school business and circulatio­n operations, HT; Dr Nivedita Shreyans, PR Head, Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai Group of Institutio­n; Shraddha Sardesai, principal, Dr Pillai Global Academy; Dr Latha Venkataram­an, director, Dr Pillai Global Academy; and . Mousumee Mishra, IBDP Coordinato­r, Dr Pillai Global Academy.

Green Mumbai was launched in an attempt to increase the green cover in the city. Since its launch, at least 260 saplings have been planted across six schools: New Horizon Public School, Airoli; St Lawrence School; Borivli; Ryan Christian School, Borivli; DAV Public School, Thane; Sulochna Devi Singhania, Thane; and Dr Pillai Global Academy, Panvel.
