MUMBAI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers at Dadar arrested a 38-year-old man on Saturday who had kidnapped a 16-year-old girl from Goa. The man was apprehended on platform number 5 at Dadar station after he got off from the train.

According to RPF officers, on Saturday, they had received a message and photos through Whatsapp, informing them about the kidnapping case and alerting them that the accused Abdul Alim Mia had boarded the train to Mumbai along with a 16-year-old girl. The officers further said that Mia is a resident of Pernem in North Goa.

The Goa police had registered a case under section 363 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for kidnapping and section 8 (2) under the Goa Children’s Act. The police then began tracking the mobile phones of the girl and the accused. “The Goa police found out that the duo was on their way to Mumbai following which the officials set out for Mumbai,” said an RPF officer.

When the team was near Thane, they learnt that Mia’s mobile location was at Dadar station. The RPF then formed three teams of officers and sent them to the Central and Western lines. At 11.30pm, on Saturday, senior inspector Rekha Mishra and her team spotted the girl at platform number 5 at the Kalyan-end. Mia had made the girl sit on the platform bench while he had gone to buy something from a nearby stall. The officials then rescued the girl and apprehended Mia. “Mia was arrested by the officials. The duo was then brought to the RPF station,” said the officer.

At 5.30am on Sunday, the girl was handed over to the Goa police officials who reached Dadar early morning. “The girl’s mother was also accompanying the police,” added the officer. The Goa police said that the man had eloped with the girl by luring her to get a job as a domestic help and had also promised to marry her.
