30YROLD MAN RAPES 8YROLD NIECE, HELD

MUMBAI: A 30-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping his 8-year-old niece in a chawl in Santacruz (East). According to the Vakola police, the incident took place at the chawl on Thursday afternoon where the minor, her parents and the accused stayed. Kailash Avhad, senior inspector, Vakola police station said, “We have registered a rape case. The accused was produced before a sessions court and has been remanded in police custody for five days. Further investigat­ion is on.” The accused had fled to Pune and was arrested from there.

Auditor files complaint against cooperativ­e bank

KOLHAPUR : In response to a court’s order, the Pune-based chartered accountant and auditor UV Gogate has lodged a police complaint against directors of SK Patil co-operative bank, which allegedly duped two co-operative credit societies at Kurundwad in Kolhapur district to the tune of ₹9 crore. While the complaint is lodged, police have yet not taken any action in the matter.

5 Congress activists caught in cashforvot­e scam

KOLHAPUR: In a tough campaign war between Congress-ncp, BJP and Shiv Sena, five activists of the Congress were found offering money to voters in local municipal corporatio­n elections. The police raided a ward where money was being distribute­d and then raided a house where the money-baiting was going on. Five, including ex-congress mayor Mainuddin Bagwan, are booked while ₹56,000 was confiscate­d.
