Access to Prabhadevi FOB likely only by Dec

- Aroosa Ahmed

MUMBAI : The entire work of the new foot overbridge (FOB) built at Parel-prabhadevi stations is not likely to be completed before December.

Commuters travelling from Prabhadevi (earlier called Elphinstone Road) railway station of western railway (WR) will have to wait longer in order to access the newly constructed 12-metre FOB connecting to Parel railway station of central railway (CR) directly from the platform. Commuters alighting at Prabhadevi cannot directly access the new FOB from the platform.

Similarly, the commuters alighting at Parel cannot use the new FOB to reach the platforms at Prabhadevi station.

This is because the expansion work on two platforms at Prabhadevi is likely to be completed only by December.

Earlier, the platform extension work and the shifting of the Route Relay Interlocking (RRI) building were supposed to be completed by October.

The RRI building relays signals important for the operation of local trains and its shifting is yet to be undertaken. The complex work will take a month to be completed.

“The new RRI building has been constructed. However, the entire shifting will take at least one month. Major blocks will have to be taken to complete the work. The extension work of the platform is also to be done, the entire work will be completed by December,” said a senior WR official.

The 12-metre FOB connecting the east to west side at Parel station was opened for the public in June.

The FOB currently connects to the newly constructed platform at Parel station.
