Fr Jude re-elected; Memon is cricket secy

MUMBAI: The elections for the Mumbai School Sports Associatio­n (MSSA) 2018-20 ensured that a far majority of the Executive Committee were re-elected to their posts following Monday Annual General Meeting.

Fr Jude Rodrigues will continue as the President after winning 139 votes while his opponent Gaurav Sharma, who had accused the Executive Committee of not following a proper procedure in conducting the elections, managed just 94 votes. Nadim Memon reclaimed his position as the MSSA’S Cricket Secretary with 123 votes beating Sharma by 26 votes.

Esmero Figuiredo was also re-elected as the General Secretary after garnering 136 votes as opposed to Poonam Khairnar’s 93.

The election was held on Monday morning under tense atmosphere with heavy police protection and no outsider was allowed to come inside the election venue, Garware. The election was over in two hours but the counting process went around for more than five hours, till 4 pm, before the results were declared.

With 148 votes, Sebastian Fernandes was re-elected as the Treasurer of the body and also went unopposed to retain his role as MSSA’S Football Secretary.

DON BOSCO OUSTED

Favourites Don Bosco ‘A’ (Matunga) were knocked out by St. Mary’s SSC (Mazagaon) after losing in the penalty shoot-out in the first division of the MSSA U-16 quarter-final at the Azan Maidan on Monday.
