“He responded well to the medical management and his vitals have gradually normalised. Although there has been a resolution of condition which lead to his hospital admission, an extended period of hospitalisation will be necessary due to age related overall decline in his general health ...” Dr Aravindan Selvaraj, executive director, Kauvery hospital said in a statement.

Later in the day, actor Rajinikanth also visited the hospital.

After meeting Stalin, Rajinikanth said, “I enquired about Karunanidhi’s health to Azhagiri, Stalin and Kanimozhi. He should long live. I pray to the almighty for the speedy recovery of the DMK leader.”
