Tigers, Elfie Stars make last-eight stage

MUMBAI : Radio Club team Radio ‘Tigers’ and Elphinston­e Cricket Club side ECC ‘Elfies Stars’ recorded straight frame victories to storm into the quarter-final round of the Otters Club BSAM Mumbai Z3-snooker League 2018, at Otters Club Billiards Room on Tuesday.

While Radio ‘Tigers’ defeated the Garware Club House team GCH ‘Strikers’ 3-0, Elfies Stars charged to an identical 3-0 win against Khar Gymkhana’s KG ‘B’ in pre quarter-final contests. Darshak Jhaveri (+24) 89-54, Vimal Mariwala (+40) bt Varun Bagri (+45) 101-100).

ANEKAR SCORES BRACE IN ST PAUL’S VICTORY

Soham Anekar scored twice to help St Paul’s, Dadar, to a 2-0 victory over Colaba Municipal in an under-16 third division match in the MSSA football tournament on Tuesday.

In another match, Bombay Scottish B defeated Gokuldham Goregaon.

KENYA WANTS NO DISCRIMINA­TION

NAIROBI: Doping is a global menace and there should be no discrimina­tion in the tough new anti-doping rules announced by the sport’s governing IAAF at its council meeting in Buenos Aires last week, a senior Kenyan athletics official said on Monday.

Under the rules approved by the Internatio­nal Associatio­n of Athletics Federation­s, Kenyan athletes will be among those required to have at least three out-of-competitio­n doping tests in the 10 months before a world championsh­ips or Olympics.

PAK HOCKEY PLAYERS THREATEN TO PULL OUT

NEW DELHI : Uncertaint­y hung over the Pakistan hockey team’s participat­ion in the upcoming Asian Games after the players threatened a pullout owing to non-payment of daily allowances for past six months. The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) said it was pinning its hopes on sponsors and a new government, expected to be led by one of the country’s biggest sporting icons, Imran Khan. PHF has not paid daily allowances for past six months, the total amounting to more than Rs 8 lakh per player.
